About WhatDate
whatdate.app answers one question: when is it? Festival, public holiday and observance dates, each with its named source and a free calendar download.
Who runs it
whatdate.app is published by WhatDate, the maker of the WhatDate reminder app for Android. Questions, corrections and requests go to contact@whatdate.app.
What the site does
Each answer page gives a date and names where it comes from. Dates come from calendar packs: lists of dates we compute from a published rule or copy from a named authority. You can download any pack as an .ics file for any calendar app, or as a .whatdate file for the WhatDate app.
How we get our dates explains the sources and the method.
How the site treats you
- No cookies. The site sets none.
- Your country stays with you. The site guesses your country from your browser's time zone and language to show its dates first. If you pick a country in the header, that choice is saved in your browser only. The only time it is sent is with a search that found no date, so we know which country's date is missing. Your default pack (WhatDate Panchang (drik method), our own computed panchanga, for India until you choose another) is saved the same way and never sent.
- No analytics and no visitor profiles. There are no tracking scripts, and the web server keeps no access log of page visits.
- No third-party requests. Fonts and scripts are served from whatdate.app itself.
- No account. Nothing on the site needs a login. The optional app launch notice stores only an email address you give and confirm, and deletes it after the one launch email (unconfirmed addresses after 7 days).
